Judicious use of technology in service of K12 professional development, administration, and learning-

If I have a gift to offer, it is a vision for guiding us through this time of great opportunity and risk, into the 21st century K-12 classroom:
Students time on task will be greatly expanded and leveraged. Fueled by personal passions for learning, facilitated by master teachers, and served by expert systems, 24/7 intelligent agents, voice to text, multiple medias, digital resources and access. These passions, tools and guidance will drive them at their own pace, from unpracticed minds to well thought, well read, well experienced minds, minds of mature intellectual capacity and wisdom.
Master teachers, always information workers and highly skilled pedagogically, we now have new cost effective tools for increasing interest and accelerating instruction: making available the invisible thoughts of a child for addressing preconceived notions and misunderstandings, training habits of mind, demonstrations of mastery, and access to the deep knowledge of experts in the field.
K12 needs to get our collective mind wrapped around the power of flat, transparent organizational structures for maximizing performance of every tax dollar. With student outcomes paramount, the calculation for return on investment must use data analysis, reflection, collegial collaboration, cognitive sciences, and culturally responsive strategies in innovative and instructionally compelling ways.

What qualifies as world class educational technologies
I have evolved to a place where I am only interested in using tools in K-12 that qualify as world class educational technologies. The best tools are mass adoptable, peer reviewed, standards aligned, content expert approved, and instructionally compelling. Easy to use, age and grade appropriate resources and materials must provide learners an opportunity to see the invisible, and interact with multiple representations of information in one eye span. Because most of the specie demonstrates a strong preference for active visual learning, visual analysis is a wonderful way to address this learning modality, providing instant feedback, and the ability to make visible and available (reduce, simplify and tease out (attenuate)) complex and abstract concepts and processes, including scale, misunderstanding, and erroneous preconceptions. World class educational technologies have forever changed the business of first world K12 education.
